Abstract: This research is aimed at investigating the anti-gastric ulcer activity of Brucea javanica oil injection (BJO) on various gastriculcer models in mice. Kunming mice (male or female, 18-22 g) were used as the subjects and divided into five groups. They weregiven normal 0.9% saline 10 ml/kg (n=10), cimetidine (regarded as the positive control) 200 mg/kg (n=10), BJO 0.2, 0.4 and0.8 ml/kg (n=10, 10, 10). Four models with ulcer disease were established by water-immersion, ethanol, aspirin, and reserpine, respectively. The ulcer index were generally evaluated with macroscopic observation and scaled to determine the effects of thetested drugs. In addition, the pathological hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining for histopathologic examination was utilized tofurther confirm the pesticide effect. The results displayed that BJO significantly improved the ulcer damage induced by waterimmersion, aspirin or reserpine and the satisfied effect was at the dose of 0.8 ml/kg, but the ulcer index of the ethanol-inducedgastric ulcer had scarcely any significant improvement after BJO treatment when compared with the control group. Data of HEstaining in aspirin and reserpine-induced ulcers showed that all the tested drugs had noteworthy protective effect in mice withgastric ulcer damage. The outcome of BJO treatment was superior to the one in the control, which testifies the therapeutic effectof BJO. It might be inferred that Brucea javanica oil injection is effective in treating a few of pathological models of mice withgastric ulcer on. Precise mechanisms of the action, however, need to be investigated in the near future.
