Abstract: The psychoimmunomodulatory effects of hydroalcoholic extract of Salvadora persica L. (Miswak) on stress model in SD rats was investigated. In present study, the miswak extract showed that it increased the number of TLC and antibodies production, decreased total paw edema significantly, size of spleen and liver increased and of kidney decreased significantly (P<0.05) with higher dose (900 mg/kg) and non significant (P>0.05) with lower dose (300 mg/kg) and median dose (600 mg/kg), as compared with stress control. However, the miswak extract showd inhibitory effect on the cholinesterase activity with all doses but highly significant (P<0.01) with higher dose and improved the behavior significantly as compared with stress control. The higher dose of miswak extract showed regulatory effect on circulating glucose significantly (P<0.05) in stress conditions. The results demonstrate that miswak hydroalcoholic extract helps to protect the body’s immunity, loss of cognitive functions and regulate raised circulating glucose due to stress in rats.
