Abstract: The fatty acids obtained from Ilex dipyrena Wallich leaves were esterified and subjected to detailed GC-MS analysis. Of the total esterified fatty acids, only 98.148 % were characterised and methyl cembratriene (7.692 %), methylcommate B (7.453 %), 2-hexadecen 3,7,11,15-tetramethyl (7.314 %) mangiferonic acid methyl ester (7.151 %), methyl cembrenene (6.542 %), methyl solanesol (6.468 %), methyl heptadecatrinoate (6.358 %) and methylcommate E (6.085 %) were found to be major constituents. The ethanolic leaf extract (reconstituted with 20 % DMSO) of the plant was evaluated for its antimicrobial activity and showed significant activity against Escherichia coli with an MIC value of 250 µg/ml.
