Analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic activity of Capparis zeylanica Linn. root extract Sunil Kumar Mishra *;Paras Nath Singh;Satyadev Dubey 2013 (2):  30-39.  摘要 ( 574 )   The root of Capparis zeylanica Linn. in particular is recommended for CNS problem and traditionally it used as analgesic by some tribe in accidental pain. The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effect of the methanolic and water extracts using different acute and chronic models of rat and mice. Fresh root of the plant was collected at the flowering stage in December from university campus. Air-dried and powdered roots were Soxhlet extracted in water and alcohol. Extracts were phytochemicaly screened by standard methods showing the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, phenols and tannins. Both the extracts were evaluated for analgesic, in-flammatory and anti-pyretic study by pre reported methods. It was observed that both the extracts contain phenolic compounds, tannins, flavonols, alkaloids, sapoinins and flavonoids. The extracts (200–400 mg/kg) of Capparis zeylanica root showing dose-dependent and significant (P<0.05) increases in pain threshold in tail-immersion test. Moreover, the extracts (200–400 mg/kg) also exhibited a dose-dependent inhibition of writhing and also showed a significant (P<0.05) inhibition of both phases of the formalin induced pain test. The alcoholic extract (200-400 mg/kg) significantly (P<0.05) reversed yeast-induced fever where as no significant result was obtained with water extract. The results obtained in this study indicate that the extracts possess analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic properties. The study seems to provide a rationale for the traditional use of this plant in pain, inflammation and pyrexia disorders. 相关文章 | 计量指标

Thus, this review mainly introduced the current research on the antiviral effects, their active ingredients, their mechanism, and improvement of heat-clearing and detoxication of CMM formulae. Antioxidant and hepatoprotective effects of the roots of Hemidesmus indicus (L.) R. Br. var. pubescens (W. & A.) Hk. f Anita Murali *;Purnima Ashok;V. Madhavan 2013 (2):  46-56.  摘要 ( 574 )   Sarsaparilla is an important drug in Ayurveda, endowed with many medicinal properties. Hemidesmus indicus (L.) R.Br. is Indian Sarsaparilla and is known as Sariva in Ayurveda. Hemidesmus indicus (L.) R. Br. var. pubescens (W. & A.) H k. f. is a variety of H. indicus, found in South India. In the present study, the antioxidant and hepatoprotective properties of the roots of H. indicus var. pubescens were evaluated in in vivo models. Hepatotoxicity was induced in albino Wistar rats by the administration of CCl4 (0.5 ml/kg), p.o. once daily for 7 days. Methanol extract of the roots of H. indicus var. pubescens was administered at the doses 200, 400 and 600 mg/kg/day, p.o. for 7 days. Serum biochemical analysis was performed to estimate the levels of SGOT, SGPT, ALP, total proteins, albumin, total bilirubin, total cholesterol and triglycerides. Liver homogenates were used for the estimation of total proteins, catalase, superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, glutathione and malondialdehyde. Histopathology studies were also performed on the liver samples. The toxic effects of CCl4 were significantly controlled in the extract treated groups as manifested by the restoration of hepatic antioxidant parameters to near normal values. There was significant (P<0.001) inhibition in lipid peroxidation in the extract treated groups. The serum parameters were also significantly controlled in the extract treated groups. The results were comparable with the standard drug silymarin. This study shows that roots of H. indicus var. pubescens possess significant antioxidant and hepatoprotective properties. 相关文章 | 计量指标
